Cedar Rapids Prairie won its first eight games and climbed to fourth in Class 4A, six spots better than the preseason poll. Iowa City High, Marion, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Clear Creek Amana and North Linn are among other area ranked teams.
Teams enter Week 3 of the Iowa high school baseball season, Conference games are in full swing, including an early-week Wamac contest and a Friday doubleheader between the preseason No. 1 teams in Class 4A and 3A. Here is a look at some notable games this week.
High school softball: Irys Benesch provides the clutch hit in the opener, Chloe Flanagan (remember that last name?) earns both pitching wins in relief and North Linn sweeps Lisbon in a Tri-Rivers doubleheader.
Linn-Mar sophomore Charlie Sarsfield is following in the footsteps of his father and brother, who were standouts on the baseball team. He is a key component to the lineup as a leadoff hitter and center fielder. Linn-Mar beat Mount Vernon, 7-2, Tuesday night at Oak Ridge Middle School.

The Clippers right-handed pitcher Bob Meade’s strong start resulted in a 3-0 victory over Cedar Rapids Kennedy in the opening game of a high school baseball doubleheader Monday. The Cougars rebounded for an 11-1 win in five innings for the split.
