High school softball: Cedar Rapids Prairie ends a nine-game losing streak, pushing past Iowa City Liberty, 11-6.
High school softball: Dubuque Wahlert’s Julia Roth delivers a pair of clutch hits in the opener, and the 3A top-ranked Golden Eagles go on to sweep 5A No. 2 Linn-Mar.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association released the Class 3A and 4A substate pairings that begin July 11. The 1A and 2A districts and substates have already been released and start July 5. Here’s some matchups to of Gazette area Iowa High School Baseball teams.
High school softball notes: With 10 wins in their last 11 games, the Beckman Blazers are closing in on a River Valley Conference North Division softball title.
Cedar Rapids Kennedy won last year’s Class 4A state baseball championship, graduating a ton of talent from that team. That made this year’s Cougars a work in progress. But after an 11-5 win Monday night over second-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie, Kennedy has won six games in a row and 10 of 11.

North Linn has won 13 straight games and remains a staple in the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 1A rankings. The Lynx are 17-2 and ranked No. 7, entering Week 6 of the season.
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union will release high school softball postseason pairings later this week for the tournament series, which begins July 7. For now, here are the The Gazette’s mock pairings.

Iowa City West scored four runs in the top of the 7th for a 12-11 comeback victory in the opener. The Trojans jumped to an early lead and staved off a Cedar Rapids Washington rally for a 4-3 win in the nightcap, earning a baseball doubleheader sweep Friday night.
