The Cedar Rapids Kernels announced a pair of roster moves prior to their Midwest League second-half opener Thursday night at Kane County.
Catcher Michael Quesada has been placed on the seven-day disabled list with a right wrist contusion. He has been replaced on the active roster by catcher Alex Swim, who joins from the Kernels from Rookie-level Elizabethton.
Pitcher Josue Montanez has been assigned from Cedar Rapids to Elizabethton and been replaced by pitcher Dallas Gallant. Montanez is left-handed, Gallant a righty.
Swim was a 22nd-round draft pick of the parent Minnesota Twins last year out of Elon University. He hit .287 in 37 games last season for the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Twins and was 1-for-3 this season in one game for high-A Fort Myers.
Gallant went 1-0 with a 5.51 earned run average last season in 14 relief appearances for the Kernels. A 23rd-round draft pick in 2010 out of Sam Houston State, he served a 50-game Major League Baseball-mandated suspension this season for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug.
Quesada is hitting .178 in 31 games for the Kernels. This is his second stint on the DL this season.
Montanez was 1-4 with a 7.89 ERA in 16 games for Cedar Rapids, including six starts.
