DAYTON, Ohio - Nothing like a 10-hour bus ride home after a loss.
That was the fate of the Cedar Rapids Kernels, who dropped the finale of their three-game Midwest League series to the Dayton Dragons, 3-2, Monday night. Cedar Rapids still won two of three games in the set and four of six on a week-long road trip.
It hosts Burlington at 6:35 Tuesday night, roughly 12 hours after it expected to arrive home Tuesday morning.
Dayton scored twice in the fifth inning against losing pitcher Aaron Slegers to break a 1-1 tie. Mitch Garver hit a solo home run to lead off the Kernels' sixth, but they could not get the tying run.
Sal Romano struck a career-high 10 to net the victory for Dayton. Cedar Rapids dropped to 51-55 overall, 20-16 in the MWL's second half.
