Tuesday’s Iowa high school state softball scores
CLASS 3A QUARTERFINALS
No. 1 Benton Community 5, Solon 1
Lexie Pippert delivered a key three-run double in the first inning, and top-ranked Benton was the frontrunner throughout a 5-1 victory over Wamac Conference rival Solon.
Benton loaded the bases immediately in the bottom of the first: Emma Townsley was hit by a pitch. Hannah Greiner doubled. Ana Glawe was intentionally walked.
Jessa DeMoss lifted a fly ball behind third base that was dropped, allowing Townsley to race home.
The Bobcats reloaded the bases with two outs, setting the stage for Pippert, who drove the ball to the left-center field gap to score three.
“I had a lot of confidence going into the game,” Pippert said. “We needed to score runs, and any way we could do it worked. I knew we could do it. Play our game, and we’ll succeed.”
The cushion was plenty for DeMoss (20-3), who held the Spartans to five hits.

No. 5 Davenport Assumption 6, No. 6 Estherville-Lincoln Central 5
CLASS 2A QUARTERFINALS
No. 1 Van Meter 10, West Fork 0 (6 innings)
No. 6 East Marshall 8, No. 8 Lisbon 1
Peyton Grabenbauer’s second time to bat came at a time when East Marshall wasn’t getting many strikes to hit.
When she did get one, she unloaded.
Grabenbauer’s two-out grand slam capped a seven-run second inning, and the sixth-ranked Mustangs beat No. 8 Lisbon, 8-1, in a Class 2A quarterfinal at the state softball tournament Tuesday afternoon at the Rogers Sports Complex.
“I’ve never hit a grand slam,” Grabenbauer said. “It was great to perform in a clutch moment like that.”
Pitcher Morgan Neuroth pitched an effective four-hitter and East Marshall (33-4) won for the 19th time in its last 20 games.

No. 5 Audubon 4, No. 9 West Monona 3
CLASS 1A QUARTERFINALS
No. 1 Martensdale-St. Marys 2, No. 12 Edgewood-Colesburg 1
MSM pitcher Campbell German surrendered three hits — all to Claire Aulwes — and struck out 12 while walking one.
MSM managed an unearned run in the fourth inning and another in the fifth.
“Some of the girls were upset afterward, but there’s no reason to hang our heads,” Aulwes said. “We played amazing defense. I’m so proud of how we played.”

No. 4 Fort Dodge St. Edmond 4, No. 5 Collins-Maxwell 2
No. 7 Southeast Warren 3, No. 2 Wayne 2
No. 6 Sigourney 3, No. 3 Remsen St. Mary’s 1
Carly Goodwin was brilliant, of course.
Thirteen strikeouts. No walks. Perfect through 4 2/3 innings, a no-hitter through six.
But Goodwin needed some offensive assistance. And that’s where Erin Dawson stepped in.
Dawson’s two-run single in the sixth inning gave sixth-ranked Sigourney some much-needed insurance.
“This is a big breakthrough for us,” Dawson said, and indeed it was.
After first-round state losses in 2021 and 2023, Sigourney (24-7) earned its way to the right side of the 1A bracket.
Goodwin threw 72 pitches, 62 for strikes. She missed the strike zone only once in the final four innings.
“I knew I had to have my ‘A’ game for a team like (St. Mary’s),” the UNI recruit said. “(Moore) and I talked before the game, how we were going to approach each batter.
