Iowa City High’s 4A state baseball quarterfinal against Waukee postponed until Wednesday

CEDAR RAPIDS — Iowa City High will have to wait to open its state baseball tournament.

For the second straight day, weather impacted the schedule of the Iowa High School Athletic Association championship event at Memorial Stadium.

Third-ranked Iowa City High was originally supposed to play No. 10 Waukee in the last Class 4A quarterfinal Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The game is now scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m.

Heavy rains caused a 2-hour, 3-minute delay in the middle of the 4A quarterfinal between No. 4 Johnston and No. 8 Waukee Northwest. The Dragons and Wolves resumed play.

The quarterfinal between No. 2 Dallas Center-Grimes and West Des Moines Dowling was moved 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The 3A quarterfinals were also altered by rains Monday. The fourth and final 3A quarterfinal was moved to Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. Top-ranked Dubuque Wahlert edged DeWitt Central, 1-0, in that contest.
