Cedar Rapids Prairie's Levi Usher named Metro Player of the Year

CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Rapids Prairie senior Levi Usher was named Player of the Year and Cedar Rapids Xavier Coach Dan Halter received Coach of the Year honors, highlighting the 2018 All-Metro teams.

Usher finished the season with a .381 batting average and a .531 on-base percentage. Usher, who has committed to play at Kirkwood, had 45 hits, including seven doubles, eight triples and two home runs with 37 RBIs. He was joined by teammates Griff Clark and Harrison Cook.

In his first year as head coach, Halter helped the Class 3A second-ranked Saints to a 30-10 record and a district final appearance. Senior Gabe Lux and Kyle Moeder were first-team picks.

Cedar Rapids Washington was the lone Metro team to reach the state tournament. The Warriors' Lincoln Riley and Jacob Bockenstedt made the first-team.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson opened the season with a Bob Vrbicek Metro tournament title. Chase Keeney and Brayden Frazier, the program leader for career doubles, were first-team selections.

Linn-Mar's Nate Annis and freshman Coy Sarsfield were chosen to the first-team. Sarsfield has already committed to play at the University of Iowa.

Marion ace Rick Atkins and Cedar Rapids Kennedy's Graham Woods rounded out the first-team.
