Ubuhle Women: Beadwork and the Art of Independence
Showcasing a form of bead art developed by women in rural KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The six featured artists call their 'paintings in beads' ndwangos. The women transform flat cloth into a contemporary art form colored with Czech glass beads. Saturday (5/12) to Sept. 17.
Opening celebration: 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday (5/12), with refreshments and cash bar in the Grand Hall at 1 p.m., followed by a talk with Ubuhle Women co-creator Bev Gibson at 2 p.m. (RSVP required at Ncsml.org/event/ubuhle-women-exhibit-opening/).
