T.J. Miller coming to Penguins Comedy Club in Cedar Rapids

A running joke in Hollywood is how so many comic-actors are diminutive with large heads. And then there's T.J. Miller, who is a mountain of a man.
Miller, 37, who was hilarious as Erlich Bachman in the late, lamented sitcom 'Silicon Valley,” stands 6 feet 3 inches, and has some massive feet.
'I have size 17 and one-quarter feet,” Miller said. 'They wanted me to stow my shoes in cargo during a flight from Dallas. They made me check my shoes in the cargo area. I'm serious!”
Sometimes it's difficult to know when Miller is serious. His mind is typically racing toward what could be humorous.
'I just say what's on my mind,” said Miller, who will perform two sold-out shows Sunday (9/16) at Penguins Comedy Club in Cedar Rapids. 'It's that simple. I love what I do.”
The Denver native has enjoyed extraordinary success. Miller has starred in 'She's Out of My League,” 'Office Christmas Party” and Steven Spielberg's 'Ready Player One.”
'That was an incredible experience,” Miller said. 'But how could it not be? I was Steven's Cheetos buddy. It was amazing being part of that.”
But Miller is best known for his work in the quirky 'Silicon Valley.” He's incredulous when he speaks about the tech folks the show satirized.
'I can't believe these people,” he said. 'They'll see me at airports or wherever and they'll say, ‘It's so cool someone finally made a show about us. We're the funniest, most interesting people in the world.' They really believe that.”
Some fans of 'Silicon Valley” had no idea they were being made fun of during the run of the show. 'It's absolutely absurd,” Miller said. 'But we live in a really absurd world.”
Part of Miller's appeal is how out of control he appears to be in such a politically correct world. He sometimes comes across as a contemporary John Belushi, who flouts rules and surprises courtesy of his behavior. He was arrested in April because of a bogus bomb threat on an Amtrak train. In 2016 he was arrested for allegedly assaulting an Uber driver.
A big guy who does not live within the confines of rules, such as Miller, can't help but stand out.
