Slow Art Day

CEDAR RAPIDS MUSEUM OF ART

One day each year, people all over the world visit local museums and galleries to look at art slowly. Participants look at five works of art for 10 minutes each and then meet together to talk about their experience. The goal is to focus on the art and the art of seeing. Participants are encouraged to take notes or makes sketches (with pencil) of the artworks. The Cedar Rapids Museum of Art will provide a list of five artworks at the front desk Saturday. Associate Curator Kate Kunau will facilitate a discussion at noon. Time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday (4/14). Admission: free with paid gallery admission, free to $7; 410 Third Ave. SE.

Guts & Glory: The War Train that Shaped a Nation

Multimedia exhibition highlighting how 60,000 Czech and Slovak soldiers stranded in Russia at the end of World War I banded together, seized the Trans-Siberian Railway, fought their way 5,000 miles to the port of Vladivostok and thus provided crucial support for the Allied cause and a key piece to the diplomatic strategy that created a new homeland: Czechoslovakia.
