Trombone Shorty's new album opens with a dirge, but Troy Andrews didn't come here to mourn.
That bit of New Orleans soul shows off his roots before branching out with wild funk on his diverse 'Parking Lot Symphony” collection. Andrews, who wowed an outdoor Hancher crowd in 2016, picked up his nickname when he picked up his instrument at age 4. By 8, he led his own band; in his teens, he played abroad with the Neville Brothers; and fresh out of high school, he joined Lenny Kravitz' band. No shortage of artistry there.
