From the Greek Parthenon to the great cathedrals of France, European monuments have inspired artists for centuries. Named for the traditional trip to Europe undertaken by mainly upper-class young men of means in search of art, culture and the roots of Western civilization, this exhibition examines how the artists in the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art's collection responded to the great sites of Europe. Several Grant Wood pieces will be displayed, including the one shown: 'The Barred Door, Chancelade (La Porte Barree, Chancelade),” from 1926.
