The Smithsonian's 'Hometown Teams: How Sports Shape America” traveling exhibition examines the many roles that sports play in American society. Hometown sports are more than just games, they shape our lives. From pickup games to organized leagues, millions of Americans of all ages play sports. And, if we're not playing sports, we're watching them. This exhibit begins its six-stop Iowa tour in Mount Vernon, before continuing on to Ottumwa, Guthrie Center, Jefferson, Ames and Conrad. Each stop will feature free events, including appearances by Iowa's wrestling hero, Dan Gable. See Mount Vernon's event listings at Visitmvl.com/dan-gable-honorary-chair-hometown-teams-exhibit/
