Iowa City - Grammy Award-winning BeauSoleil, featuring Michael Doucet - a familiar band in the Corridor music scene - is replacing Buckwheat Zydeco on the Iowa Arts Festival main stage at 9 p.m. Saturday.
Buckwheat Zydeco Frontman Stanley 'Buckwheat” Dural had to bow out of the festival due to medical reasons, said Lisa Barnes, executive director for Summer of the Arts, the organization hosting the festival, which begins Friday and continues through Sunday in downtown Iowa City.
BeauSoleil is one of many musical acts scheduled to perform on the main stage during the three-day festival. Here is a look at the acts and when they perform:
Friday - 7 p.m. (Aoife O'Donovan); 9 p.m. (The Wood Brothers)
Saturday - 10 a.m. (Iowa City Community Band); 11:30 a.m. (Red Rock Hill); 1 p.m. (Sean Costanza); 2:30 p.m. (Henhouse Prowlers); 5 p.m. (Parsonfield); 7 p.m. (Middle Western); 9 p.m. (BeauSoleil with Michael Doucet).
Sunday - 10 a.m. (Goin' Up Caney); 11:30 a.m. (Parsonfield); 1 p.m. (Cedar County Cobras); 2:30 p.m. (Dandelion Stompers).
The Iowa Arts Festival started in 1983 and typically attracts about 30,000 people. The event not only includes a fair with more than 100 artist vendors, but also live music, a food area dubbed 'Culinary Row,” and plenty of activities for children.
BeauSoleil features Cajun and Creole dance music from its roots in Lafayette, Louisiana.
All of the arts festival musical performances are free.
