Wash's Carr slowly starts to get recruiting attention

Alex Carr wasn't limping or anything Wednesday afternoon. He insists he doesn't have any lingering soreness.

The Cedar Rapids Washington senior's workload this season could have provided either or both. He led Class 4A in carries, finishing with 1,911 yards rushing and 25 touchdowns.

Those numbers are getting the 5-foot-8 running back noticed by college coaches.

"Right now, I've got official (visits) planned to North Dakota, South Dakota and South Dakota State," Carr said. "A couple more people have been calling. Bowling Green is calling more, Iowa State is calling some. No offers, yet, from them, though."

Carr played behind all-stater Andre Dawson last season, so this season is the first and only impression he got to make. A gutty 33-carry, 198-yard rushing performance in a 31-0 loss to unbeaten Iowa City High in the middle of the season made an impression on Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz, who was at the game to watch his youngest son, Steve, play for City High.

Ferentz sent Carr a handwritten letter commending him on the effort, and Carr has unofficially visited the school. But, again, nothing close to an official offer, yet.

"Schools are waiting on my film," Carr said. "Once we get that out ... Coach (Tony) Lombardi, he's going to start putting one together. He's got a more down time now, so he's going to start helping me.

"So I hope things should start picking up a lot here in the next couple of weeks."
