CEDAR RAPIDS – Community First Credit Union in northeast Cedar Rapids was robbed Thursday morning, and the suspect quickly hit Interstate 380, police said.
The male suspect said nothing when he entered the credit union around 9 a.m., 1030 Sierra Dr. NE, handed a teller a note and left with an undisclosed amount of money, police said.
Sgt. Cristy Hamblin said the man was last seen headed southbound on I-380 in a black Jeep Cherokee.
The suspect is described as a slender white male, about 5-foot-7 or 5-foot-9. He was wearing a black jacket, a tan baseball cap and had a backpack on with orange or red straps, Hamblin said.
Police were already checking images from a speed camera on I-380 at the First Avenue exit, but already have surveillance images from the credit union, where a camera, is positioned right at the door.
“I saw some of the pictures and they're very good,” Hamblin said. “Some mother is going to recognize her son or girlfriend is going to recognize her boyfriend.”
An investigation was continuing. Police did not immediately have license plate information.
