Two Linn County businesses failed tobacco compliance checks conducted by the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
According to the sheriff's office, the R & R One Stop, 4640 Highway 13, Central City; and the Corner Stop, 4200 Lewis Access Road, Center Point, failed the compliance checks by selling tobacco products to a minor.
Twenty-three other businesses located outside of the Cedar Rapids-Marion-Hiawatha metro area were checked and passed, according to the sheriff's office.
A first-time violation for illegal tobacco sales is a $100 fine for the employee and a $300 civil penalty. Fines go up for subsequent violations and businesses can face suspension of their cigarette sales permit with multiple violations.
