By Pat Deerberg: We were living in Germantown, Md., at the time. It was a beautiful, clear morning. Our daughter dropped off the baby and then left to take the other girls to preschool on her way to work. In a little bit she was back and told us to turn the TV to a channel with news. We sat and watched the towers fall.
She left for work in a little while, and we weren't sure if she would be home that night, as she worked in a secure government compound. I told her that morning that our world was changed forever.
We were told that we were in the flight path of the plane that went down in Pennsylvania, if it had continued back to Washington.
We were scheduled to fly out of National Airport in October and had to reschedule out of Dulles. It was strange to see military with guns in the airport. Truly our lives have been changed forever.
