The day time stood still

By Shannon Muchmore: My now ex-husband and I used to drive a semi together. On Sept. 10, we were told we were stuck in NYC until further notice without a return load. I had an unsettling feeling all that day and night.
On the 11th, at 7 a.m., we were dispatched a load. I still was nervous and thought that was because of where we were located. As we left to pick up our load from Avon, N.Y., I looked into the rear-view mirror and saw the first plane hit. Unable to believe my eyes, we pulled over and turned on the 13-inch TV we had in the sleeper. As the TV came to life, we watched the second plane hit. We composed ourselves and made it to Avon to pick up.
According to the GPS, we would've been within the parameter of ground zero if we hadn't gotten the load. Within hours we were stopping for fuel, and we watched the fuel station's diesel prices skyrocket.
On this day, time for me stood still because I dont really know what could've happened had we been stuck where we were. I never knew true fear until that day, and I pray I never bear witness again. I have pictures of the towers from the day before ... and some of jet stream after all flights were grounded.
I am proud to be an American, and this is where I was on Sept. 11, 2001.
