Tentative 5-class state-tournament schedules
Jeff Linder May. 26, 2011 3:06 pm
DES MOINES -- State tournaments will not be lengthened in volleyball, basketball or softball because of the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union's decision to expand to five classes.
But it will make for some long days.
The expansion with the 2012 state softball tournament, then goes full force into the 2012-13 school year with volleyball, basketball and golf.
IGHSAU executive director Mike Dick said state golf will become a three-site event for five classes. Track and cross country will remain four-class sports, soccer will stay at three, tennis and bowling will remain at two, and swimming will remain an unclassed sport.
