Sylvester Robert Handley, Jr., 86, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Sunday, November 24, 2024. A celebration of life will be held from 3 - 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood in Cedar Rapids.
Sylvester was born January 31, 1938, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Evelyn Fern (Roberts) and Sylvester Robert Handley, Sr. He married Marie Elsie Reyner on April 16, 1955, in Cedar Rapids. The following year, he graduated from Wilson High School as part of the Class of 1956. He dedicated most of his career to his work as a self-employed plumber. Sylvester loved spending summers on the ranch in Montana and he was also a professional square dance caller for over 50 years.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Handley of Cedar Rapids; children, Bob (Martha) Handley, Connie (Steven) Ament, Karen (Bill) Matthews, and Rodney Handley; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Joe Handley and David (Lori) Handley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward Handley; and sister, Katherine Null.
