Storla matches school record with 7 TDs; Marion outsprints Anamosa

MARION -- Famine to feast, in just a week.
Colton Storla celebrated his 18th birthday by matching a school record with seven touchdowns, and Marion outscored Anamosa, 58-35, in a bizarre Class 3A District 5 football game Friday night at Thomas Park Field.
"It was an outstanding night for Colton, and it was an outstanding night by our line," said Marion Coach Tony Perkins. "They came a long way in a week."
The Indians (3-1 overall, 1-1 3A-5) were blanked last week by Western Dubuque, but racked up 510 yards (501 on the ground) Friday.
Storla carried the ball 23 times for 265 yards. His seven TDs tied the school record set by Carey Bender, against Vinton-Shellsburg in 1989.
"We got a lot more meanness in us this week," Storla said. "The line was doing great, making huge holes."
Storla anticipated a slow end to his landmark day.
"I'm going to relax and eat," he said.
The game featured 93 points, 857 yards, 16 penalties and nine turnovers. And it got extremely chippy in the final five minutes.
"It was excruciating," Perkins said. "We had our second- and third-teamers in there, and we couldn't get a snap. Then they scored three touchdowns at the end.
"What are you going to do?"
Storla scored on touchdown runs of 13, 9, 69, 3, 3 and 5 yards in the first half. He added a 10-yarder in the second half.
The Indians had the continuous clock going for a while, building a 51-13 lead in the third quarter before Anamosa (2-2, 0-2) scored three times in the final 6:51.
Anamosa's Nik Schulte passed for 322 yards and four touchdowns.
Marion hosts Vinton-Shellsburg next week; Anamosa entertains Union.
