A good crowd showed up in blizzard conditions Saturday at Sioux City Heelan, many of them to get a look at Linn-Mar's Kiah Stokes.
The 6-foot-3 University of Connecticut signee recorded her second straight triple-double in Sioux City with 37 points, 19 rebounds and 10 blocked shots for the top-ranked Lions against No. 7 North.
In two girls' basketball games in Sioux City this weekend, she totaled 67 points, 36 rebounds and 20 blocks.
“The best thing about Kiah is how much she has improved in four years,” Linn-Mar Coach Michael Brandt told the Sioux City Journal. “She came in as a skinny freshman but she's worked on the weights and become a much stronger player.”
C.R. WASHINGTON 67, SIOUX CITY HEELAN 42 - Cedar Rapids Washington jumped to a 25-5 lead after one quarter and cruised to a 67-42 victory at Sioux City Heelan.
About the only thing that went wrong for the Warriors (6-0) was the weather that forced them to book an extra night at the hotel.
Allisa Oney, Tia Dawson and Kelli Klaus led Washington scores with 11, 10 and 9 points, respectively. Ashley Piper and Jazz Royster each had three steals, and Dawson led Washington with 13 rebounds. The Warriors used 17 players.
