Former Mid-Prairie track star Aaron Stockstell, who owns the third-fastest 800-meter time at the University of Alabama, will transfer to the University of Northern Iowa.
"A couple of our coaches (at Alabama) are retiring after the season, and that gave me a lot of thoughts about UNI," Stockstell said Monday afternoon. "I'll be closer to my mom, and I think it will be more enjoyable and more peaceful to be closer to home.
"My time at Alabama was a success. I learned a lot on and off the track."
Stockstell, who has two years left of eligibility, ran the 800 in 1:49.79 at Alabama. He was an 11-time state champion at Mid-Prairie and placed fourth in the Gazette Male Athlete of the Year voting in 2008.
