Chad Simmons has been named interim executive director of Diversity Focus Inc., a not-for-profit organization that promotes diversity awareness and inclusion in the Corridor.
Simmons, managing director of The PenDennis Group, a human resources consulting firm in Coralville, and a veteran human resources professional, will lead the six-year old organization and build on the efforts of the departing Executive Director Hazel Pegues, who announced her resignation in June.
"Hazel is a tremendous leader," Simmons said in a statement announcing his appointment. “I hope to continue her legacy of implementing innovative ways to partner with the Corridor communities and make diversity a strategic asset."
Simmons, who has served on the Diversity Focus board of directors, brings a wide range of experience to his new position, with a special focus on community and organizational development. Marcella David, Diversity Focus board president, professor of law & international studies and associate dean for international & comparative law at the University of Iowa, said Simmons will bring continuity to the organization.
"As Diversity Focus continues to build on successful programming and develop plans for our future, we are confident that Chad will assist the board of directors and provide essential leadership in developing and implementing our strategy," David said. "His background, experience, and understanding of Diversity Focus' mission makes him well-suited for the role."
Simmons graduated from Morehouse College and holds a master of business administration degree from the University of Iowa. His professional experience includes management posts with Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids, Amoco Corp., Ameritech Corp., oration, Citicorp Diners Club, and Kraft Foods, all in Chicago, as well as University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City.
