Shirley Ann Bagenstos, age 93, of La Porte City, Iowa, passed away at La Porte City Specialty Care on March 26, 2025, at 7:55 a.m. She is survived by her children, Diane Slade (Allan) and Leann Martens (Gary); her grandchildren Jeffrey Slade (Katie), Andrea Slade (Barrie Bernard), Nicholas Martens (Megan), Benjamin Martens (Autumn), and Margaret Martens (Dalton Elleman); her great-grandchildren Ainsley Slade, Ava Slade, Isaac Slade, Payton Bernard, Pierse Bernard, and Elias Martens. She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Jay Bagenstos on February 1, 2011, and her parents Gordon and Marvel Trewin.
Shirley was born in Lake Park, Iowa on September 2, 1931. She had a deep passion for craft shows and crafting, especially knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed having coffee with friends, she and Herb riding their Goldwing with the local club, Polka music, dancing, and of course listening to Barefoot Becky and Mollie B. Shirley was quite generous - whether donating crafts, supporting non-profits, or helping family, friend, neighbor, or stranger in need. Shirley was active in the local United Methodist Church, the Waterloo Goldwing Association, and the Moose Club.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held in June, with details to be posted at a later date.
