By Jay Capron, morning host/program director, AM-800 KXIC: I was studying at the University of Illinois at Chicago when the terrorist attacks took place. I didn't have class until 11 a.m. (that was intential BTW) but for some reason that morning I was up at 8 a.m. To this day I am not quite sure what made me turn on the TV rather than catch a few more hours of sleep. When the second plane crashed into the Twin Towers I immediately woke up my roommate and we watched the horrifying images for hours.
What I remember most about that day was going up to the roof of our apartment on Taylor Street and looking at the Sears Tower. We wondered, "Could it possibly be the next target?" I also remember armed military jets circling the city of Chicago and protecting the skyline from any possible threats. RIP to all the heroes of that day.
