Schedules for the 2012 State Duals and traditional state tournament

Apr. 27, 2011 2:57 pm
The Board of Control for the Iowa High School Athletic Association voted Wednesday to approve changes to the State Dual Team Tournament and the traditional state tournament. The State Duals, previously held at the U.S. Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids the week following the traditional state tournament, will now be the Wednesday after district competition with the traditional state meet beginning the next day and concluding on Saturday night. Both will be held at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
The traditional state tournament returns to a three-day event after a four-day format was introduced in 2003 when the former host building, Veterans Auditorium, located across the street from Wells Fargo Arena, underwent renovations and the tournament was expanded to award medals to the top eight finishers.
The change ends a long relationship with Cedar Rapids, which hosted the State Duals since 1994.
Below are the new schedules for both the State Duals and the traditonal state tournament.

I like the idea of a three-day state tournament, and although I don't like it being at the expense of Cedar Rapids losing State Duals, I REALLY like the fact that state quarterfinal losers have another round before having to go out and compete in the consolation bracket with elimination at stake.
