Riders blow 4-goal lead, lose in shootout to Chicago

BENSENVILLE, Ill. - At least they got a standings point. That's the best way to look at the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders' 5-4 shootout loss Sunday to the Chicago Steel.
The Riders (5-1-1, 11 points) built a 4-0 lead on two goals from Judd Peterson and one each from Jason Kalinowski and Alec Marsh, only to have Chicago score the next four to send it to extra time. That included one from Alec Vanko with 1:05 left that made it 4-4.
That goal came with the Steel's goaltender off in favor of an extra attacker. Peterson was the only Rider to score in the shootout.
This was Chicago's first win of the season in 11 games. Cedar Rapids was outshot in the game, 46-45, with Chris Birdsall taking the loss in net.
The RoughRiders play Friday at Indiana and Saturday at Muskegon.
