Postseason glance, pre-Week 7

Who's in? Who's close? Here's a look around Eastern Iowa:

CLASS 4A EAST

Five teams have clinched: Iowa City High (6-0), Clinton (6-0), Linn-Mar (6-0), Bettendorf (5-1) and Dubuque Hempstead (5-1).

Six teams are 4-2 and wrap up a berth with a win this week: Davenport Assumption, Cedar Rapids Washington, Pleasant Valley, Cedar Falls, Davenport Central and Cedar Rapids Xavier. These teams are in decent shape even if they don't win another game.

North Scott and Cedar Rapids Prairie are 3-3, and probably will qualify with one more win.

At 2-4, Burlington, Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Iowa City West would be the final three teams in the 16-team mix if the season ended today. One more win would give these teams a chance. Two would make them solid.

Waterloo East and Waterloo West also are 2-4. They probably need two more wins -- or one win and some help -- to qualify.

CLASS 3A DISTRICT 3

New Hampton (4-2, 4-0) and Oelwein (3-3, 3-1) are in position to clinch this week. Oelwein is in with a win over Waukon while New Hampton clinches with a win and a Waukon loss.

CLASS 3A DISTRICT 4

The winner between Marion (6-0, 4-0) and Union (6-0, 4-0) is in. So is Maquoketa (6-0, 4-0), if it defeats Mount Vernon.

CLASS 3A DISTRICT 5

Williamsburg (5-1, 4-0) wraps up a berth if it defeats Mount Pleasant. If Oskaloosa defeats Fairfield, then Clear Creek Amana (4-2, 3-1) can clinch with a win over Washington.

CLASS 2A DISTRICT 4

North Fayette (6-0, 4-0) and Cascade (6-0, 4-0) are assured substate berths if they both win Friday. North Fayette hosts Dyersville Beckman and Cascade hosts Jesup.

CLASS 2A DISTRICT 5

Iowa City Regina (6-0, 4-0) and Solon (6-0, 4-0) are substate qualifiers if they beat West Liberty and Camanche, respectively. Center Point-Urbana (4-2, 3-1) wraps up a berth if it beats Wilton and if Regina wins.

CLASS 2A DISTRICT 6

With wins Friday, Mid-Prairie (5-1, 4-0) and Davis County (5-1, 4-0) are assured postseason berths. Mid-Prairie hosts Columbus Junction while Davis County is at Mediapolis.

CLASS 1A DISTRICT 3

There's a lot to be settled here. The winner between Denver (6-0, 4-0) and South Winneshiek (6-0, 4-0) takes the district lead, but might not be assured anything yet unless Gladbrook-Reinbeck and/or Aplington-Parkersburg are upset.

CLASS 1A DISTRICT 4

Six teams are 2-2 or better in this jumbled race. Clayton Ridge (5-1, 4-0) qualifies if it beats Maquoketa Valley and if North Linn loses to Starmont.

CLASS 1A DISTRICT 5

West Branch (6-0, 4-0) wraps up a spot if it beats Iowa Valley. Wapello (5-1, 3-1) and Eddyville-Blakesburg (5-1, 3-1) are almost assuredly in if they beat Belle Plaine and Pekin, respectively.

CLASS A DISTRICT 4

Elkader Central (6-0, 4-0) and Wapsie Valley (5-1, 4-0) nail down berths if they defeat Don Bosco and Postville, respectively. Lisbon (4-2, 3-1) joins the party if it defeats East Buchanan.

CLASS A DISTRICT 5

Danville (4-2, 4-0) is in, and WACO (3-3, 3-0) gets in if it beats Danville Friday.

CLASS A DISTRICT 6

Three teams could clinch spots this week. North Tama (6-0, 3-0) and North Mahaska (6-0, 3-0) are in if they defeat GMG and English Valleys, respectively, and BGM (5-1, 3-1) snags a spot if it defeats HLV and if North Tama beats GMG.

8-MAN DISTRICT 4

Preston (6-0, 4-0) is in if it defeats Olin. Lansing Kee (5-1, 4-0) is in if it defeats Central City.
