Police investigate Cedar Rapids stabbing death as homicide

A man was stabbed to death in Cedar Rapids late Tuesday night, and police are investigating the case as a homicide.

Officers were called to the 1500 block alley between Fifth and Sixth avenues SE at 11:16 p.m. for a report of a person down. Responding officers found 34-year-old Clifton West in the alley, suffering from stab wounds. Police said aid was administered to West and he was taken to a local hospital, but he died of his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.

Sgt. Denni Randall said police do not have any additional information on the stabbing.

"I have nothing additional to give you at this time," Randall said Wednesday morning.
