Police identify driver killed in weekend crash

Police have identified the driver who died Saturday morning as the result of a single-vehicle wreck on Edgewood Road SW as 28-year-old Dieudonne Nsengimana, of Cedar Rapids.

Police said Nsengimana was driving northbound on Edgewood Road SW at about 5 a.m. Saturday when he struck a guardrail near the 4900 block of Edgewood Road at a high rate of speed.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene where they found Nsengimana in the vehicle, seriously injured and unconscious, and began providing emergency medical care.

Nsengimana was transported to UnityPoint Health-St. Luke's Hospital where he died a short time later.

Police said accident reconstruction specialists are continuing to investigate and toxicology results are still pending.
