IOWA CITY - Andre Perry has been appointed executive director of the Englert Theatre, 221 E. Washington St.
Perry, well-known in the local arts scene, is founder and primary programmer for the annual Mission Creek Festival, which showcases music, literature and visual arts, and is a talent buyer at the Mill Restaurant. He will continue working with both organizations.
He also has served as an academic adviser at the University of Iowa, where he earned an MFA in non-fiction writing.
Through his experience with Mission Creek and Mill programming, Perry has worked with virtually every venue and art space in the community and has developed a vast national network of agents and artists.
“This is a very exciting time for the Englert,” Perry says. “As we look back on both 10 years of the new Englert organization and the 100th anniversary of the theater itself, we are also looking forward to ushering in a new era of performance and prosperity. I am excited to be a part of it.”
He replaces Sean Fredericks who stepped down from the Englert's top leadership role in February to join the Peace Corps.
