A North Liberty woman is accused of stealing more than $100,000 from her employer.
According to the North Liberty Police Department, beginning in December 2012 and continuing until last month, 59-year-old Peggy A. Ashby diverted cash from her employer's daily sales intake. Police said Ashby falsified deposit records and made it appear as if the deposits balanced by substituting other checks written to the business in exchange for the missing cash.
Ashby was ripping off her employer on a nearly daily basis, police said. Her scheme netted her more than $100,000, according to criminal complaints. She has been arrested and faces one count of ongoing criminal conduct, a class B felony, and first-degree theft, a class C felony.
