Alzheimer's disease is life-changing for both those who are diagnosed and those close to them. Support groups provide a safe place to connect with other caregivers who truly understand and share similar feelings.
The Alzheimer's Association East Central Iowa Chapter is proud to announce the development of a new Caregiver Support Group for individuals caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias in the Cedar Valley area. The group will be held at 7:00pm on the 1st Monday of each month in room 205 at Walnut Ridge Baptist Church located at 1307 West Ridgeway Avenue in Cedar Falls.
Caregiver Support Groups provide an opportunity for family members and caregivers to meet and develop a mutual support system that will help maintain their health and well-being. Support groups provide an opportunity to exchange practical information on care giving problems and solutions, establish sympathetic connections with others who are dealing with similar experiences, and share different ways of adapting and coping with the presence of Alzheimer's disease. The Alzheimer's Association strives to offer a non-threatening environment where families can find the comfort and support they deserve. Support group facilitators are trained to familiarize people with local resources and provide consistent support and up-to-date information to each group member.
The Alzheimer's Association offers affiliated Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Groups in various communities throughout the area. This new support group comes in addition to the two established Alzheimer's Caregiver Support Groups in the Cedar Valley including one in Waterloo held at 1:30pm on the 3rd Monday of each Month at Friendly Village Chapel and one in Cedar Falls held at 5:00pm on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at the Alzheimer's Association office .
