The deadline to sign 2009 draft picks ended for Major League Baseball teams late last night.
Former West Delaware prep and Des Moines Area Community College pitcher Mitch Mormann did not come to an agreement on a deal with the San Francisco Giants and will play college baseball next year at LSU. Mormann was a 20th-round pick of the Giants.
Former Cornell College pitcher Chris Handke has signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers and is with the Arizona Rookie League Dodgers. In two games, the 6-foot-10 Handke has allowed three hits and one walk in 1 1/3 innings, striking out none.
The Bellevue native was a 41st-round pick of the Dodgers.
