Michelle Brown sent me an e-mail after reading today's column. Her daughter tried brownies in a mug. The recipes are similar, but make some of those modifications I was mentioned earlier. Here's some of her message:
My daughter had just found a recipe this weekend for a microwave brownie in a mug and gave it a try. I had a taste and although not the same as a pan of regular brownies, the quick sugar fix it provides and the ease to prepare make the recipe a keeper. We didn't have any chocolate chips on had so she used a T of chocolate syrup instead and did not use the baking powder.
Microwave Brownie in a Mug
In large coffee mug, mix flour, sugar, cocoa power, salt, and baking powder (if using) with fork or whisk.
Add wet ingredients and mix well. It will look like mud.
Stir in chocolate chips.
Place in microwave and cook on high for 1 minute 30 seconds.
