MLB kicks in cash for Jones Park project

Jul. 20, 2009 1:46 pm
It's good to see Major League Baseball be a part of the Jones Park youth baseball project in town. The city announced Monday they have received a grant from MLB's Baseball Tomorrow Fund in the amount of $75,000 that will go toward the $170,000 project.
Youth diamonds will be built at Jones Park to offset the loss of other diamonds in town, particularly at Hayes Park, due to last year's flooding.
Others who have contributed money to the project include the Cedar Rapids Kernels Foundation, Minor League Baseball and Perfect Game USA.
"The Baseball Tomorrow Fund appreciates the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Department's commitment to youth baseball and softball in its community," said Cathy Bradley, Executive Director of the Baseball Tomorrow Fund. "We are pleased to support the continued growth of this program."
Donations to the project are still being taken. Contact Gail Loskill at (319) 286-5742.
