IOWA CITY - Former Iowa City High all-stater and University of Iowa standout Brian Mitchell has been named the new head baseball coach at his prep alma mater, City High Athletics Director D'Anne Kroemer confirmed Monday.
Mitchell had a stint in the minor leagues with the Toronto Blue Jays in the late 1990s. His 20 home runs in 1997 rank third on Iowa's single-season list.
He also is co-founder of SM Capital, Inc. investment firm in Iowa City, as well as part owner of Diamond Dreams Academy in Iowa City and Life Success 4 Athletes, Inc., a company that aids professional athletes with their finances.
Mitchell is the son-in-law of former Iowa wrestling coach Dan Gable.
