Melvin Gordon is no 1-game or 1-season wonder

OK, so you know Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon is good. There's something about seeing a guy rush for 408 yards against Nebraska that leaves a favorable impression.
But Gordon's excellence has been going on for a while. Here are some statistics that are a little on the 'Wow!' side:
Gordon's 1,909 rushing yards leads FBS. His 8.56 yards per carry not only leads FBS, but is better than the best seasons of the likes of Barry Sanders (7.64), Bo Jackson (7.46), Gale Sayers (7.12), Earl Campbell (6.28), Adrian Peterson (5.68) and everyone else in major-college football other than Reggie Bush (8.70 in 2005).
Gordon has averaged what would be an NCAA-record 8.36 yards per carry in his career! That's a full yard better than Bush (7.32), and Gordon already has 78 more career carries than the USC great.
The 408 yards Gordon picked up against Nebraska Saturday were done on 25 carries. That's 16.3 yards per carry. That's crazy.
The Badgers and Cornhuskers didn't play each other last season. They met in 2012 in the Big Ten title game, a 70-31 Wisconsin win. Gordon was the third-string running back that year behind Montee Ball and James White. But Gordon still rushed nine times for 216 yards! Ball had 21 carries for 202, White 15 for 109.
Gordon doesn't shrink when he leaves Camp Randall Stadium. He is averaging 191.2 rushing in true road games this season.
He didn't pile up his yards against nonconference rum-dums. Gordon averages 205.3 yards per game against teams from Power 5 conferences.
He has 741 rushing yards in November. That's more than all but nine of the other 124 FBS teams.
Gordon has 993 first-half rushing yards. Only four Big Ten players have more total rushing yards than that.
His 15 rushes of 40-plus yards are more than any FBS team.
By the way, Badger backup Corey Clement has rushed for 742 yards. That ranks ninth in the Big Ten.
