Linn-Mar's Paige selected for prestigious international event

The honors keep rolling in for Linn-Mar basketball star Marcus Paige.

The senior-to-be guard and North Carolina commitment is one of 20 preps from around the nation selected to play for the United States at the Nike Global Challenge international tournament Aug. 5-7 in Portland, Ore., Paige's father, Ellis, said Monday.

Two U.S. teams will play in the event, as will teams from Canada, Brazil, France and an all-star club from Asia. The American players were selected by being considered the top players at the recent LeBron James U.S. Skills Academy.

NBA stars who have played in the Nike Global Challenge include Deron Williams, Kevin Durant and Amare Stoudamire.

Paige will compete this weekend at the AAU 17-Under Super Showcase basketball event July 23-27 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
