League of Women Voters hosting forum on judicial retention

Iowa Appeals Court Judge Van Zimmer is joining the expert's panel of the April 21 special League of Women Voters forum “Judicial Retention: Who Does What and When.”

St. Other forum panelists are former Iowa Supreme Court Chief Justice David Baker and Cedar Rapids Attorney Steve Pace. The judicial forum replaces the regular Legislative Forum which is canceled due to a conflict.
Zimmer is the senior judge of the Iowa Court of Appeals. Baker, the former chief justice of the Iowa Supreme Court, is a current member of the 6

Judicial District Nominating Commission for the Iowa Supreme Court and the Iowa Court of Appeals. Pace is a senior vice president at the Shuttleworth & Ingersoll law firm and served from 2006-11 as a member of the Judicial Nominating Commission.
“The goal of the forum is to help explain the sometimes unknown and misunderstood process of selecting our judges” says Forum Chairperson Mary Ann Nelson. “This is a unique opportunity for members of the public to learn about the judicial selection process from three highly experienced and widely respected legal professionals. “
The forum is free and open to the public. The session will begin with remarks by each of the panelists followed by questions from audience.
