Kim Melodee Eby, 63, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on April 7, 1962 in Orange City, Iowa, Kim was the heart and soul of her family. Known for her compassion, loyalty and incredible sense of humor, she left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Being a devoted Mother to Nicole, Darrin and Devin was Kim's greatest blessing. When possible she loved traveling to Florida and Texas to create lasting memories with her kids in the sunshine. Spending time with her family and nurturing those relationships was of utmost importance to her, and organizing special moments with family and friends was one of her many gifts that brought great joy to others.
Beyond her role as a Mother, Daughter and Sister, she worked as an Instructional Assistant in behavioral and special needs classrooms for 14 years. Serving in the Linn-Mar School District in Marion, Iowa and Westfield Schools in Westfield, Indiana, she was a safe place for the students she worked with. Teachers, parents and students all felt her warmth and genuine heart and often commented on the difference she made. Her deep relationship with colleagues and students, even years after working with them, was a testament to her influence.
Outside of work Kim enjoyed long daily walks, gardening, cheering on her Michigan Wolverines and attending Northview Church. Many were blessed by her heartfelt cooking, thoughtful gifts, words of encouragement, and her beautiful singing voice. She brought color, life and love to every space she entered.
Kim is survived by her three precious children: Nicole (Jake) Camp of Naples, Florida; Darrin Eby of Fort Myers, Florida; and Devin Eby of Houston, Texas. Her Mother, Linda Vonk of St. Joseph, Michigan. Siblings Kirk (Elaine) Vonk of Battle Creek, Michigan; Kyle Vonk of St. Joseph, Michigan; and Kristin (Fred) Vance of Westfield, Indiana. Also her beloved Yorkie, Coco. She is preceded in death by her Father, Cornelius Vonk.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, August 1 at Starks Funeral Home, 2650 Niles Rd., in St. Joseph, Michigan from 6-8 pm. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, August 2nd at First Church of God, 2627 Niles Ave., in St. Joseph, Michigan at 10 am. Memorial donations in memory of Kim may be made to the family in care of Starks & Menchinger Chapel, or the IU Health Schwarz Cancer Center.
