Kernels activate Jacobo, Groth released

First baseman Gabe Jacobo has been activated from the disabled list, adding a key player to the Cedar Rapids Kernels active roster as they fight for a playoff spot in the Midwest League.
Jacobo is hitting .227 with three home runs and 27 RBIs. He went on the seven-day disabled list with a hamstring injury.
Outfielder Ryan Groth as been given his release by the parent Los Angeles Angels. Groth, who also played in Cedar Rapids briefly in 2008, was hitting .195 in 77 at-bats with two homers and nine RBIs.
The Kernels host Kane County tonight at 6:35. Cedar Rapids trails the Cougars by two games in the Midwest League's Western Division and is tied with Clinton for second place and the final playoff spot in the division.
