Julie M. McElmeel, 65, formerly of Marion, Iowa, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2021, at the Paula J. Barber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Julie was born Aug. 16, 1955, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to John and Katie McElmeel. She worked at Options of Linn County and Goodwill Industries for many years.
Thank you to all those who helped Julie so much throughout her life. Julie was blessed with so many people who loved her, especially her very good childhood friends, Diane and Connie Larson. Her life was filled with challenges, but with so many wonderful people to help guide her through the journey, she lived life to the fullest.
Survivors include her brother, Michael (Stacy); sister, Lori (Leon III); her uncle, Vern Havlik; and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Katie McElmeel; her grandparents, Henry and Mary Althaus; and her aunt, Helen Havlik.
Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 11, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids, with a visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Casual dress is requested by the family.
Memorials are suggested to the Animal Rescue League, 5452 NE 22nd St., Des Moines, IA 50313. Julie loved cats and horses and wanted only the best for all animals. The family has requested no flowers.
