Jefferson's Uthoff down to half-dozen suitors

Cedar Rapids Jefferson basketball standout Jarrod Uthoff has whittle his list of college possibilities to six, he said Wednesday. That includes all three state public schools.

Along with Iowa, Iowa State and Northern Iowa, the 6-foot-8 Uthoff has listed Illinois, Wisconsin and Butler as finalists.

"Very tough," he said. "It was very tough to know that I had to make a lot of phone calls that disappointed coaches."

Albany, Arizona State, Creighton, Indiana and Indiana State also made official offers to Uthoff. Was one of those phone calls tougher than the rest?

"Nope," Uthoff said. "They were all tough."

Uthoff said he has visited the campuses of all six of his finalists unofficially. He said he hopes to make a commitment in the next two weeks.

And he's not tipping his hand.

"I wouldn't say that," he said, when asked if he has a favorite school right now.
