Jefferson's Furnish qualifies for USGA Junior Championship

Cedar Rapids Jefferson's Megan Furnish earned a third-place finish at a United States Golf Association Girls Junior Championship qualifying tournament Wednesday in St. Charles, Mo., to secure a berth to the championship tournament in July.
Furnish, who will be a senior for the J-Hawks this fall, carded an 81 at Bogey Hills Country Club. She edged two other golfers by one stroke for the third and final qualifying spot and finished five strokes back of second. Mika Liu, of California, posted a 73 to win the event.
Furnish advances to the Championship at Olympia Fields (Ill.) Country Club (South Course) on July 18-23.
