Janet Elsie (Smith) Harding, 82, of Cedar Rapids, died October 24, 2024 at Linn Manor Care in Marion after a short illness.
Survivors include her half-brother, Randy L. Martin, two sons, Tab (Kathy) Harding and Scott Harding; daughter Annette Harding; grandchildren Nicole and Austin Harding, Brock Harding and Amber Smith; great-grandchildren Steven, Savanna, Rose, Evelyn and Archer.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Erma and Leon Martin; father Ken W. Smith and ex-husband Harold L. Martin; and half-brother Grady L. Martin.
Janet was born Dec. 15, 1941 to Ken W. Smith and Erma (Miller) Smith in Cedar Rapids. They later divorced.
Janet graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids and married Harold L. Harding at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in 1959.
Janet was a homemaker and worked at Mercy Hospital in Halmar in the 1970s, the Longbranch Hotel in the 1980s, and was a phone operator for Global Crossing and lived in Iowa her entire life.
Janet enjoyed sewing, quilting, music, classic cars, crafts and scrapbooking, and was a lifetime member of St. Paul’s
Janet was an avid family historian and photographer, and her children and grandchildren were the light of her life. Janet loved life and will be missed by all who knew her.
