It's All Right Now, Baby, it's the Championship Now - A Fan's Perspective

Mar. 5, 2009 9:35 pm
It's All Right Now. Win or lose, it's okay. We are where we belong, playing in the final game.
Game day...and not just any game, *that* game. The Big One. The Title Match.
After a spectacular season, a conference championship, (**Time for a Shout Out to our fellow Tri Rivers team the Cascade Cougars...Go get em in the 2A final...we'll be sitting on your side cheering loud and proud!**) a down to the wire Regional Final, and two heartstopping games on the floor at Wells Fargo, the Orioles are in it...
The 2009 State Championship basketball game.
All day long, Springvillians were either talking to each other about that Wednesday night game, or being asked about it by everyone who knew we were from Springville. "What did you think of that game". "Can you breath yet"? "Were you nervous"? Uh...DUH! Yeah, we were nervous. Did you SEE the score? Did you READ Jeff Linder's column or blog. Nervous would be the understatement of the year...But....
Once the jangled nerves had calmed, after the blood pressure came down, and the heartbeats settled back to a regular rhythm, after the shock and awe of the semi final game, when there is a moment to reflect, a realization dawns. Somehow, it almost seems to matter more that we got here, that we are playing in the championship game, than if we win or lose.
To be clear, I did say *almost*. We totally WANT to win. Oh yeah...winning will be SO SWEET...but in the grander scheme, it's being here...something huge was hanging in the air, and for our girls, especially the seniors, making it to this game, this year, that seems to really resonate.
When the Orioles spilled out onto the floor in jubilant victory Wednesday night, they were the Orioles we've seen in game after game....laughing, excited, happy Orioles. That jubilation was heartwarming, and reassuring all at once.
Our Orioles are back...back in spirit, and back to play in that final game. Whatever happens tonight, It's all right now...
"Look, what's your game, baby?"... This day, our game is Basketball.
