Police said an Iowa City man pulled a gun on a pregnant woman Monday night and threatened to kill her and her unborn child.
Iowa City police responded to the 200 block of Davis Street around 7 p.m. for a report of a man who had pulled a gun on a woman. The woman, who is not named in criminal complaints, told officers that she and 31-year-old Derrill Jones got into an argument.
At some point during the argument, Jones pulled a handgun on the woman and said, “I will kill you and your baby,” according to criminal complaints.
The woman is five months pregnant, police said.
Sgt. Vicki Lalla said the woman fled the scene and reported Jones' threats. Officers returned to the Davis Street residence and formed a perimeter around the home.
“It looks like they took him into custody fairly quickly,” Lalla said.
Police were able to take Jones – who has multiple felonies, including a conviction for third-degree burglary in 2011 – into custody. He faces charges of first-degree harassment, possession of a firearm as a felon, assault while displaying a weapon and going armed with intent.
Jones is in custody at the Johnson County Jail. His bond has not yet been set.
